Самый конец ковра не сохранился; считается, что на нем был изображен сидящий на троне король Вильгельм, но доказательств этому нет. По всей вероятности, утеряно было не более ярда ткани.
Генеалогические таблицы
Герцог Вильгельм был внучатым племянником королевы Эммы, а значит, не мог считаться ее прямым потомком. Поэтому он, строго говоря, не имел никакого наследного права на английский престол; Вильгельм не был родичем короля Эдуарда и не являлся урожденным «Этелингом» — потомком Этельреда.
